Our Sweet Gender Reveal

With baby number two only a few months away, we wanted to do something a little special for its gender reveal amongst our loved ones. It also gave me the perfect excuse to throw a little party on a quiet January Saturday. I could not have found a more perfect location than my very own parents’ house. Guests gathered around the open kitchen filled with a sweet bar, which included a collection of delicious donuts, cupcakes, lemon bars. In addition, a custom-made celebration cake with a sweet surprise of the baby’s gender color icing filled in the middle that would be shared after the reveal. To wash down the yummy desserts guests had a choice of milk, coffee, or lemonade lined up along side timeless mason jars.

To add a little fun to the party, guests were asked to guess the baby’s gender upon arrival by choosing either fresh baby breath flower crowns and bows for a girl, or blue mustaches for a boy. In addition to having an amazing photographer, guests were free to capture the silly and quirky moments through their own lens with a Polaroid camera. After sharing many laughs and way too many desserts, the party gathered outside with poppers in hand. The poppers were discretely filled with the correct gender colored confetti. On the count of three, we all pushed the poppers open and the air was instantly full of pink, purple, and orange for our little girl!

It was a day to remember. Thank you to all of you that were apart of our celebration. We are so lucky and grateful to welcome the newest addition to our little family, our son’s little sister, and our forever little princess.

Michaela and Aaron | Fairmont Penthouse, San Francisco

This past August, I had the pleasure to be a part of a truly magical wedding ceremony in the lavish Fairmont Penthouse suite in San Francisco. Michaela and Aaron envisioned a simple and intimate wedding with their closest friends and family. Simplicity has never been more beautiful. The 6,000 square foot penthouse served as the perfect setting to allow the 40-person guest list experience the couple’s electric love first hand.

Guests were greeted at the door with Michaela and Aaron’s favorite rosé champagne. The ceremony was held on the expansive terrace overlooking the stunning city skyline, with a string quartet adding to the naturally beautiful ambience.  After a lot of tears and a couple “I dos”, the library opened up as an open bar for a 2 hour cocktail hour.  Guests roamed between the Ballard room to shoot some pool, the library to get any drink they so desire, or mingle on the lovely terrace. Once the dinner bell rang, guests were invited to join the couple in to the romantic dining room for a wonderful three-course meal along with live piano in the background. The night was rounded off with dancing and mouth-watering desserts, even some late night snacks.

As beautiful as every last detail of the wedding was, it was unmatched by the intangibles Aaron and Michaela brought to the night. Their genuine love for one another filled the atmosphere. Everyone who caught even a glimpse of the newly weds automatically fell in love with the couple. I am very honored that I had the opportunity to compliment their organic love with details.

Met Gala 2014

Here are my favorite looks from last night’s Met Gala. There were definitely a lot of black, white, and neutrals with splash of color.  My favorite looks were the elegant and simple styles, which were emphasized with a touch of bold or sexy, opposed to the overly dramatic looks we saw. Enjoy, Bethaina xox

Vera 2015 Spring Collection Unveiled

“The opportunity to create a visual and expressive experience of the clothes, as interpreted by my fashion vision, is a whole new way for me to communicate with not only brides, but women everywhere,” she said. “In this instance, bridal becomes the artistic vehicle to advance my love of fashion in general. I hope you will enjoy this new experience.” Vera Wang

I just love Vera and everything about this video. She brings more than just a wedding dress, she brings an art for brides. I hope that this video will make you as excited as I am to see the 2015 collection on the run way, and hopefully on my soon-to-be brides! Who ever thought a bra top on a wedding gown would be so beautiful. If any designer can do, it would be Vera. Enjoy Xo

KJ’s Super First Birthday

Two of my passions in life are being a mother and an event planner. Baby KJ’s first birthday party allowed me to combine these two passions and as a result, we had an amazing day of celebrations. The party was done as KJ’s mother, but with my Simply by Bethaina touch. Since KJ was a month old, his father and I made up a “Superbaby” song that he absolutely adored. Ever since, the name “Super KJ” stuck, so it was only fitting that his first birthday party would be Superhero themed. Friends and family joined us at a local park where our little baby superheroes ran around in their custom made capes, while enjoying live music from KJ’s favorite music instructor. For food, we had an amazing shawarma stand, old soda pop, and of course, a “super” dessert bar. The themed party was such a blast for everyone, even the adults were able to be superheroes for the day!

Wedding Gown Inspired: Oscar’s Best Dressed

Sunday night’s 86th Academy Award’s was one of my favorites of all time for so many reasons. Namely because of all the beautiful red carpet gorgeous gowns that ranged from shades of white, bold and blistering reds, blacks, pretty pastels and metallic. Ellen brought her A game bringing laughs and big smiles with her antics of ordering pizza from a Mom-and-Pop local pizza joint to taking cell phone selfies during the show. My favorite stars amazed me with their beautiful gowns, simple hair and make-up and of course, I can’t forget Hollywood’s handsome donning themselves in navy and white tuxes. I was definitely having a moment and I couldn’t be more excited and inspired for the upcoming wedding season.

And now, for my absolute favorite dresses of the night… all wedding-worthy styles! Bethaina Xo

Bringing a smile to a child’s face this Valentine

As I sat making my son his first little valentine card, I fast forwarded and began thinking that perhaps in twenty years from now this Valentine card made by his Mommy would bring a smile to his face and remind him that he was then and will forever hold the key to my heart. It made me think about other children who may not have the love they need and deserve not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day. I wondered what I could do for those children who need that confidence boost, love or just need to hear that they are truly special. At that moment, I reminded myself it’s the little things that matter, and small kind gestures can go a long way. There is nothing more warming to the heart and soul than bringing a smile to a child’s face. I learn from example from my mother and sisters who continue to inspire me everyday by always finding opportunities to reach out and help others in any way they can. I decided for this Valentine’s Day, after being inspired by my mother, to make cards with special messages of love to those children who may have been forgotten or who just need some extra love and attention.
If anyone knows of a child who can use some cheer and love please direct message me. I will be sending out some cards with stamps and stickers all made with love by Monday. Bethaina xo
